VDR - Video Disc Recorder

My VDR

Catia Model

After i trashed my first VDR (just the case, not the insides) I decided to construct my new vdr (v2) from scratch. I started with a complete 3D model generated with Catia. Apparently i underestimeted the effort, to build the case. On top of that, i dont own the tools and machines to fabricate all parts i designed. Still, i did manage to complete some of the parts and start assembling. This was about two years ago... nothing changed since then :) The device still has no top cover, no frontpanel and no backpanel.
However, the Software is complete and running fine. I used linux-live to build a custom linux distribution. It boots from a Compact-Flash card and only writes onto the card on shutdown (configuration changes). The Distribution is based on Debian Etch with the vdr-packages taken from e-tobi.

Extensions

Recently i build an Atmolight. Since quite a long time, I am working to finish my display extension (Picctl).
In the near future i wish to add a video-out board in order to get a better picture quality and some ESD protection.

My Parents VDR

Inspired by the skiller2k1 design, i decided to build a vdr-box for my parents. It is based on a Siemens Scovery xS with a Pentium3 Processor. It uses the same software as my own VDR.

Patches

Most of my Patches are vastley outdated an unusable now. However, just for completeness you can find this stuff under data/vdr/patches/. Fortunately the rename-patches, both for svdrp and vdradmin made it into an upstream release.

Addons

Some time ago I created a set of scripts to convert vdr recordings to .ogm files. I used vdrsync.pl as demuxer and transcode as repacker. I didnt use my own scripts much and nobody else showed interest, so I abandoned this stuff. The remains can been found here: data/vdr/patches/.
